Education and CultureMadison is home to UW-Madison, a world-class public institution considered at par with the Ivy League. UW-Madison offers academic courses in Philippine history and culture through the Center for Southeast Asian Studies. The Center also hosts free academic lectures on Fridays at noon called "Friday Forum," where topics can be Philippine-related. Filipino language (Tagalog) is also taught in UW-Madison in the regular fall and spring semesters. During summer, the university welcomes students and adult learners from across the U.S. who study the language more intensively through the Southeast Asian Studies Summer Institute. The Filipinx American Student Organization (FASO) is actively involved in educating and spreading awareness about the Filipino American culture in UW-Madison. FASO forms an integral part of the university's planning for the APIDA Heritage Month celebration in April.PAMANA offers free community events where Filipinos gather together. This includes the annual summer picnic and Christmas holiday party, as well as movie nights and other activities throughout the year. |
